Post Deployment Care. The Southern AZ VA Health Care System has enhanced Primary Care for returning Combat Veterans. Our OEF/OIF/OND Champion providers have been trained on specific combat related injuries and illnesses. You are eligible for a post combat intake evaluation, focused on a number of health risk potentially related to your combat experience.
Post Deployment Intake Clinic: This is a comprehensive exam built to consider all phases of your transition. We value your service and want to encourage you to maintain your services’ Warrior Ethos. During the Post Deployment Intake Clinic, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with healthcare professionals to review your physical fitness, mental wellness, and technical proficiencies for civilian life as you transition from the military. This team-based approach to your health care is conducted all in one day, in three separate one hour exams:
1st. A Readjustment Specialist will talk with you about aspects of your life that may be affected by your deployment to a war zone, including your sleep and mood. Also, they will address how you’ve been coping with day-to-day stressors since you have been back.
2nd. A Medical Provider will conduct a complete physical exam and give special attention to conditions that may be related to your deployment, including environmental exposures.
3rd. A Case Manager will review your VA benefits and help you connect with any resources that might enhance the quality of your transition. Additionally, they will help ensure you leave the Post Deployment Intake Clinic with a clear understanding of your care plan.
