Group Health Classes

Diabetes Education: A four class series, first 4 Thursday afternoons of the month from 1 pm to 3 pm in classroom S301, bldg 2, 3rd floor. Topics include:

1. Basic facts, disease process,coping with chronic disease,and exercise
2. Medical Nutrition Therapy Part I (sugars, carbohydrates & label reading),
3. Medical Nutrition Therapy Part II (fats, protein, weight management & label reading)
4. Long term complications, sick day management, foot care & Medications

Nurses, Dietitians, and Pharmacists, teach the classes.   

Time is coordinated so that questions can be addressed when needed. Family members are encouraged to accompany the individual with diabetes. Printed educational materials are provided at each class. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Education: This is a group medical clinic that includes 4 class sessions that meet once a month for 4 months and is held in the Medical Subspecialties Clinic.  Topics include: 1. What is COPD, how it is treated, steps toward control. 2. Relaxation/Exercise/Mobility. 3. Nutrition especially for those with Lung Disease. 4. Medications and COPD. 5. Breathing techniques & oxygen safety. Classes are taught by Respiratory Therapist, Pharmacists, Dietitian, & Nurses. There is ample opportunity for asking questions, practice breathing techniques, and demonstrate correct use of inhalers. Family members are encouraged to accompany the individual with COPD.
