Voluntary Service considers our youth volunteers an integral part of the overall Volunteer Program. Youth between the ages of 14 and 20 are encouraged to join the program and in return will receive valuable experience and training, which will be of benefit in applying for scholarships or employment.
Students Volunteering for Veterans
• Serving – our Nation’s heroes.
• Enriching – personal and professional growth.
• Rewarding – opportunities to make a difference in your life and the lives of others.
• Volunteering – to give back to Veterans who have given so much.
• Expanding - horizons with new experiences that will improve your resume while enhancing your life.
The SAVAHCS SERVE Program is a new opportunity for selected students to gain valuable work and life experience while serving our Nation’s Veterans. There will be a limited number of youth placements available.
The SERVE Program application package will include an essay and written recommendations. Top applicants will be invited for an interview. Selected students and their parent/guardian will be required to attend one of two orientations offered. Participants will be expected to adhere to program performance and attendance expectations.
Contact Voluntary Service at 520-629-1822 to obtain a SERVE application. Space is limited so interested youth should submit the application package to Voluntary service no later than April 1, 2014. The new SERVE Program replaces all other SAVAHCS youth volunteer programs.
In addition to the self-satisfaction of giving back to those who gave so much, there are many advantages to becoming a youth volunteer. Youth volunteers can begin developing a network of positive references for job and college applications. For information on the James H. There is no better way to answer the question – “Why volunteer at a VA Hospital,” than to hear from other volunteers.
