The Patient Transportation section has two transportation components. One addresses patient beneficiary travel guidelines and programs; the other section provides onsite Tram services between facility care areas and parking areas.
This program implements the policies and procedures for authorizing beneficiary travel at VA expense for eligible beneficiaries and is based on specific eligibility criteria. Beneficiary travel reimbursement is not authorized for non-veteran patients (CHAMPVA, Indian Health Service, etc.).
This program provides tram service between parking areas and facility patient care areas.
Each tram stop location is marked. Each tram route should maintain patient pick-ups every five to seven minutes. Each tram stop is equipped with a telephone for patient communication and safety.
