Volunteer Opportunities
The following is a list of potential volunteer positions. This is a partial list and does not include all opportunities available.
VA Ambassabor
Transport patients in wheelchairs or on gurneys to designated areas within the medical center. Also deliver lab specimens, patient charts and medical equipment throughout the hospital.
Office Administration
Support SAVAHCS programs with general clerical work to include answering phones, filing, word processing, data management and reception of Veteran patients and visitors.
Recreation
Accompany patients to activities both on and off campus. Help with event set-up and escort patients from their rooms to activities.
Patient Concierge
Provide premier customer service to ensure patients and visitors have a pleasant hospital experience.
- Concierge Cart
Provide comfort and amenity items to patients and family members in the wards and clinics. - Concierge Desk
Greet and serve Veteran patients, family members and guests, providing information on directions and resources. - Emergency Department Concierge
Provide comfort and resources to patients and family members in the hospital Emergency Department waiting room. - Surgical Clinic Concierge
Provide comfort and resources to patients and family members in the hospital Surgical Clinic waiting areas.
Volunteer Transportation Network (VTN)
Drive government vehicles to transport Veterans. *Must possess valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and pass VA physical.
- DAV Drivers
Transport Veteran patients throughout Southern Arizona to appointments at the Tucson VA Hospital. Drivers needed from Yuma, Sierra Vista, Casa Grande and Tucson. - TRAM Drivers
Drive a six to eight passenger golf cart to transport Veterans and visitors throughout hospital grounds. - Recreation Drivers
Drive government vehicles to transport Veterans to scheduled off-site recreation events with VA Recreation staff.
Pets for Vets
Assist staff in providing animal assisted rehabilitation activities with Pet Partners and/or Therapy Dogs International certified dog/handler teams.
Caregiver Support Program Volunteer
Visit and become a companion for homebound Veterans, providing a much needed break for their caregivers.
Appointment Reminder Assistant
Call Veteran patients to remind them about scheduled appointments and track responses.
Vetlink Kiosk Navigator
Assist Veterans using the new Veteran Point of Service Kiosks to check in for appointments.
Volunteer Barbers/ Hairstylists
Trim hair for Veterans in the Homeless Program Barber Shop, the South Western Blind Rehabilitation Center or the inpatient Community Living Center. Must be a licensed barber/ hairstylist.
