Tucson VA to Host National Salute to Veterans Week Events

February 6, 2017

TUCSON, AZ – The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System’s (SAVAHCS) Tucson VA Medical Center will be taking part in the VA’s annual National Salute to Veterans staring on February 9th with a special free performance of The Manhattan Dolls, a swing-style vocal trio singing songs from the 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s.

The concert will take place in the R.E. Lindsey Jr. Auditorium, Building 4 located at 3601 South 6th Ave. Tucson, AZ 85723 starting at 2:00 p.m.  The community is welcome to attend.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Salute is observed annually during the week of Valentine's Day. This year’s observance will take place February 12 through 18. Several events will be held at the Tucson VA throughout the week to honor and express appreciation for our Veteran patients.

These events include Pets for Vets Cuddle Booth, Valentines Celebration Coffee Cart, ice cream socials, entertainment for Veterans, and a visit from a professional race car driver.  For more information contact Voluntary service at (520) 629-1822.

While National Salute is held in mid-February to honor Veterans, anyone can show their appreciation to Veterans all year by volunteering their time or donating to VA medical facilities.  No medical experience is necessary and volunteers are encouraged to share ideas on how they would like to give back to Veterans using their unique skills. For volunteer opportunities at the Tucson VA call the Volunteer Office (520) 629-1822 or visit

For media inquiries, please contact the SAVAHCS Public Affairs office at (520) 629-1819.
