Southern Arizona VA Health Care System
Veterans Creative Arts Competition at Tucson VA February 2016
January 25, 2016
TUCSON, AZ – The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System’s (SAVAHCS) Tucson VA campus will be hosting a local National Veterans Creative Arts competition on February 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the R.E. Lindsey Jr. Auditorium, Building 4 with a performance jam session from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The art on display will include visual arts, such as paintings, photographs, and sculptures that were all created by Veterans enrolled at SAVAHCS.
Nationwide, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical facilities use the creative arts as one form of rehabilitative treatment to help Veterans recover from and cope with physical and emotional disabilities.
The competition is open to Veterans who are enrolled at a VA Medical Center or Outpatient Clinic before entering the local competition. An eligible Veteran can enter local competition at only one VA facility per year. Veterans can submit an entry in visual arts, creative writing, dance, drama or music categories.
A formal awards ceremony will be held later in the year for national and local award winners.
